Warhammer 40k: Space Marine does it Right!

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine does it Right!

DLC is a very grey subject for me. On the one hand, I love having developers continue to dedicate man hour to giving me more content for my games. I like new stuff to play on stuff I bought months ago. On the other hand I hate when publishers take a game that was already developed and cut out large amounts of content be they cosmetic or functional, and then resell me that stuff later. I don’t like buying a book and finding that I need to pay more to read the middle and end.

Even cosmetic things are somewhat strange because you can argue that a new skin for my character or a new weapon isn’t something you need to play the game or reach the goal of the game or whatever. I would argue that weapon packs, pre-order exclusives, skin packs, or new game modes are things that should be cheap or all out free. New campaigns, completely new and original characters, new chapters in the existing story I can see running anywhere between $10-$5 respectively.

THQ and Relic have done an incredible job with Space Marine. The game shipped as a complete single player experience with a beginning middle and end. The multiplayer was barebones but still managed to have a very decent array of options for customization. Each time they have released new content for the game in the form of player skins and weapon skins or new maps and game modes, they have included FREE content as well.

Now they have announced the official Dreadnought DLC. If you know anything about Warhammer 40k then you know Dreadnoughts are iconic and unarguably badass. We get to pilot them now in a new game mode that will run $10.00. As well everybody gets a new game mode for free (typical capture and hold domination style/conquest mode) and some new unique skins from Space/Chaos Marine Chapters for a bout a buck or two.
